About Daigan

I am a 40 something single gay guy living with AIDS in San Francisco.  I am a Soto Zen Buddhist Monk living at the San Francisco Zen Center. I was ordained as a Priest in July 2011.

I am also a full time student attending the Graduate Theological Union getting the Buddhist equivalent to an M.Div. I also am one of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence as well as volunteer at a variety of places.  In other words, I am pretty busy and active.  My biggest long term goal is to continue to build my career as a Hospice Chaplain, providing spiritual care for people at the end of life and their families.

I use the name given to me by my teacher when I received lay ordination.  Daigan means “Great Vow”, and is a constant reminder that I live a life in vow.

I really stink at writing about myself, and I also believe that words and phrases don’t really tell you much about a person. I always enjoy meeting new folks for coffee though, so send me a note and say Hi.
